Self-Guided Tours

An intriguing journey of discovery awaits you at West Terrace Cemetery. Follow one of the self-guided trails and explore South Australia’s rich history through the eyes of the people that helped shape it. You can pick up each of the self-guided trail maps just inside the cemetery’s main entrance or scan the QR Code on the main entrance board. The trail map and coloured way-finding markers will help you navigate your way through the cemetery as you explore a fascinating cross-section of Adelaide.

Beliefs, Attitudes & Customs Tour

The Beliefs, Attitudes & Customs interpretive trail explores life, death and the hereafter. As you follow the trail you will discover the diverse religious beliefs, traditions and rituals of thousands of South Australians, their funeral customs and mourning practices.

Natural Heritage
Tour

The Natural Heritage interpretive trail delves into the cemetery’s hidden landscape of rare native and exotic vegetation. As you follow the trail you will be introduced to a diverse selection of trees, shrubs, climbers and ground covers, their unique uses, the fauna they support and the symbolism attached to some of them.

Stories
of the Everyday Tour

The Stories of the Everyday interpretive trail explores the stories of everyday South Australians - from the triumphant to the tragic. Behind the eminent names immortalised in the history books are the thousands of everyday people who make a society what it is. Collectively their fascinating and long-forgotten stories paint a vivid picture of life and death.

Trailblazing Women
Tour

The Trailblazing Women interpretive trail highlights the personal trials and an inspirational achievement of some of South Australia’s leading ladies. These strong, resourceful women left their mark on South Australia and beyond.
